Stay close while your child is in the hospital
Whether you’re coming to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital from a few counties or a few countries away, Ronald McDonald House® in Iowa City gives you a home away from home. Find a room of your own, a kitchen, laundry, and other families who understand — as long as your child’s treatment takes, and always for free.
Who can stay
- Any patient 21 or younger.
- Families who live 20 miles or more from the hospital.
- Families whose child is being treated at University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital
- Parents, siblings, and the people helping you through it.
What it costs
Nothing, and that isn’t limited to the room. Meals, laundry, parking, and everything else the House provides are included, so your family can focus on healing. Your room is yours as long as your child’s treatment lasts, whether that’s four nights or four months.
How to request a room
Call 319-500-7642 to be placed on our Request to Stay List. You, a family member or your child’s care team can make the call.
The House is full most nights, so you’ll likely start on the waitlist. That’s what puts you first in line when a room opens. Families on the waitlist are eligible for a discounted rate at a hotel nearby.
