About the Ronald McDonald House Family Room at University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital
The Ronald McDonald House® Family Room sits on Level 3 of University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, on the same floor as the Pediatric ICU and the Pediatric Cardiac ICU. It’s a space for families close to their child and gives families an opportunity to take a deep breath, eat a meal, take a shower and sleep.
What’s available
The Family Room
A kitchenette and dining area, a living room with a TV, reading material and toys. A hot meal every evening, and breakfast and lunch at no cost.
The Shower Suite
Three showers, with towels and toiletries provided. No need to bring anything.
The Sleep Room
One private room with a queen bed, for a nap or a night’s sleep. Requested one night at a time, staff takes requests each morning.
The Lounge
Open 24 hours, on the unit, with snacks for anyone coming off of a long night.

How to use it
Walk in between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. There’s nothing to book and no one to call first.
For the sleep room, speak to the staff in the morning; requests are taken daily.

Yes — it’s for families with a child being treated in the Pediatric ICU or Pediatric Cardiac ICU on Level 3.
Yes, as long as an adult is with them.
A hot meal every evening, plus breakfast and lunch at no cost, and snacks in the Lounge around the clock.
The Family Room is open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. The Sleep Room is requested one night at a time through a Ronald McDonald House Family Room Staff Member, so check with them in the morning.
Staff is available from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. They will walk you through our services and help you get set up with what you need.
